Cutting Dog Hair

Dogs need to be groomed regularly and trimming a dog’s hair is one of the most basic aspects of grooming. If you would like cutting dog hair to maybe save a bit of money on a dog groomer, there are a few things you should know.

Learning cutting dog hair can seem difficult to learn. Not every dog breed requires clipping but if your dog has thick or long hair, chances are it should be trimmed on occasion. You could make a visit to your local groomer for some tips if you are not comfortable cutting dog hair without some advice before getting started.

It is highly recommended that you begin cutting dog hair when he is quite young. This will get him accustomed to the brush, comb, scissors and trimmer. Remain calm and talk to the animal as you are brushing his hair and be sure that he is in a secure place so that he cannot run away from you and possibly injure himself during the grooming session.

You should do a bit of research on the breed of your dog to see what types of haircuts the breed should get. Look at other dogs in your area that are the same breed and see how they have been groomed.

Keep in mind that there are different types of clipper blades that are designed for specific breeds, so be sure you are using the correct blade for your dog. It is important that the blades are kept sharp and that you use clipper coolant to keep the blades from getting too warm when trimming your pet. You certainly do not want to burn your dog’s skin while cutting dog hair!

Be sure to brush out any mats before cutting dog hair and then begin clipping the uneven hair on your dog first. Remain calm as you work and before long and with a bit of practice you will soon be cutting dog hair’s hair on a regular basis!
